Do fantasy owners need to be concerned about Cubs outfielder Alfonso Soriano?
It’s a question that I’m not blowing off entirely at this point after a report surfaced in the Chicago Sun Times that put his recovery from an August quadriceps injury in a bit of a gray area. When asked about the quad muscle he tore and how well it’s healing, his response was,”I don’t know how I feel about my leg.” He added that he’ll know how it’s doing come spring training.
So can we really wait until camp to gauge what we are going to get from the Fonz this season? We obviously have little choice in the matter, but if the injury hampers his ablity to steal bases and/or push off the leg and generate power, we have to thoroughly evaluate where he should be ranked among major league outfielders. If it appears as though the injury will continue to effect his game, he slides from the top five outfielders down to approximately 11 or 12.
While this may be blown way out of proportion, it’s imperative that fantasy owners pay attention to No. 12 when he takes the field in HoHoKam Park this spring.
